2010 Dana Point Festival of Whales
Ahoy! Thar She Blows! This special festival celebrates the roundtrip migration of the California Gray Whale from Alaska to Baja and includes an art show, street faire, parade, sand sculptures, whale watching tours, and sailing and rowing instruction. The event will take place March 6-7 & 13-14, 2010, in Dana Point Harbor. Spring Into Art
Sawdust Art Festival presents 2010 Spring Into Art, two-day weekend workshops offering the ever-popular glass-blowing classes, and a wide variety of other exciting media including painting in acrylics and oils, fabric collage, mixed media collage, watercolor painting, ceramics, flower arranging and more. Workshops include one-on-one instruction with local artists and fees include all materials and supplies needed. Workshops are held during weekends in March.
Irvine Studio Arts Festival
The 16th annual Irvine Studio Arts Festival returns to Heritage Parkon Saturday, June 5 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This outdoor art extravaganza, hosted by the Irvine Fine Arts Center, features an eclectic mix of more than 100 local and national artists displaying and selling a variety of original works of art – including ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, textiles, and glass art. From functional to surreal, witty to elegant, these one-of-a-kind pieces form an impressive collection, appealing to a broad audience of art enthusiasts.
The festival also features live music, food, art demonstrations, and the "crowd favorite" - ice cream sundaes sold in handmade ceramic collector bowls. Admission and parking are free and the event is open to the public.

Classic California: Recently Conserved Paintings from the Permanent Collection features 22 paintings by California’s most celebrated artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries that have been recently conserved from the Bowers Museum’s permanent collection.
Vision of the Shaman, Song of the Priest
Pre-Columbian art from Mexico and Central America displayed in a series of galleries communicates the power and sophistication of the mysterious cultures that rose and fell in ancient America. Emphasis is placed on the ceramic and stone arts of West Mexico, Costa Rica and Panamá. A gallery devoted to the famous "Limestone Tomb of Lord Pacal" includes a lifesize reproduction of the elaborately decorated and highly symbolic limestone sarcophagus excavated at the pyramid in the Mayan City of Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico. Other works of art from the ancient Mayan civilization complete the exhibit.
Where Masks Still Dance: New Guinea

California Legacies: Missions and Ranchos (1768-1848) features objects related to the settlement of Alta California through Spanish land grants, life at the California Missions and the wealth and lifestyles of the first families who flourished under Mexico's rule of California known as the Rancho period. The collection originating from Orange County's missions and ranchos includes the first brandy still to be brought to California, a statue of St. Anthony that originally stood in the Serra Chapel at Mission San Juan Capistrano,a dispatch pouch used by Native Americans to deliver messages between missions, and fine clothing, paintings and daily use objects. A must-see for California students and residents alike.
